Elementary Social Studies

Students at the elementary level are encouraged to use performance assessments within the classroom to support a balanced assessment plan.

3rd Grade (Introduction to History and Social Science - Focus on Ancient World Cultures)

As part of our Balanced Assessment Plans, 3rd grade Social Studies will continue to teach content and measure student achievement through local alternative assessments. Each student will be evaluated on all standards using a variety of summative assessments including 2 required common Performance Assessments. Task links are only available to CCPS accounts.

3rd Grade Performance Assessment Inquiries:

1st Quarter: (SOCIAL STUDIES) This inquiry is co-curricular with writing and will lead the students to examine the importance of laws in a community. Students will propose a new rule for the school community and write a persuasive letter explaining its purpose and management.

2nd Quarter: (SCIENCE) This inquiry will examine how simple machines function in order to make work easier. Students will evaluate a problem and predict the best simple machine to use to solve the problem. Students will create a model, conduct a test, and analyze the application of the apparatus.

3rd Quarter: (SCIENCE) This inquiry will lead the students to examine the need to conserve and protect natural resources.  Students will create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to increase awareness on the importance of water conservation and protection in our community.

4th Quarter: (SOCIAL STUDIES) This inquiry will lead the students to examine the concepts of economic choice, opportunity cost, resources, and specialization of labor. Students will work individually or in groups to create a marketing strategy, presentation, and products to sell to the class or grade level during a Market Day event.
